Marine Underwriter – Remote/Hybrid (Occasional London Office Attendance)

Job Purpose

We are seeking an experienced and driven Marine Underwriter to join our underwriting team. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining a profitable global marine portfolio. Key Responsibilities

  • Underwrite marine risks in line with company guidelines and delegated authority.
  • Manage and grow a profitable and sustainable book of marine business.
  • Build and maintain strong broker and client relationships across the UK and internationally.
  • Assess risk submissions, conduct pricing analysis, and make sound underwriting decisions.
  • Ensure compliance with internal procedures, regulatory standards, and reporting requirements.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal teams including claims, compliance, and operations.
  • Monitor market trends and competitor activity to identify opportunities and risks.
  • Represent the company at market meetings and client visits, including international travel.

Skills & Experience Required

  • 5–10 years’ proven insurance industry experience, ideally with a focus on marine underwriting.
  • Strong understanding of marine risks and the global marine insurance market.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a profitable underwriting portfolio.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
  • Willingness to travel internationally for broker and client engagement.
  • Familiarity with Lloyd’s and the London Market (preferred but not essential).

Preferred Qualifications

  • ACII qualification or progress towards certification (advantageous but not essential).
  • Experience working within an MGA or delegated authority framework.
